I-95 express lane tolls rise

New maximum toll is $10.50

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – It's about to get more expensive to use the express lanes on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade County.

Starting March 1, using the express lanes could cost drivers as much as $10.50.

Tolls are currently as high as $7 when congestion is at its worse.

For those who drive the current seven-mile stretch of I-95 between the Golden Glades Interchange and MacArthur Causeway, the new minimum toll rate per mile will be 50 cents, up from a quarter.

The new maximum toll rate per mile will be $1.50, up from $1.

The Florida Department of Transportation says toll rates are based on driver demand.

Increasing the rate is necessary to keep traffic moving at 45 mph or higher in the express lanes for at least 90 percent of the time, the FDOT says.
