HIALEAH, Fla. ā Three children were injured Thursday afternoon when a private school bus crashed in Hialeah, police said.
Sky 10 was above West Third Avenue and 14th Street at 5:30 p.m., shortly after the MireyaĀ School Bus crashed into a concrete wall outside a home.
The husband of the bus driver said his wife,Ā Mireya Pineira, is the owner of the private bus company. He said they have been in the business of picking up students from private schools for about a decade.
Hialeah police Sgt. Carl Zogby said the driver of the Nissan Maxima failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the bus to crash into the wall.
The driver, identified Friday as Felix Padilla, 47, received a citation for careless driving.
Zogby said there 15 children on the bus at the time.
Three children -- a 10-year-old girl, a 13-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy -- were taken to Palmetto General Hospital with minor injuries. They were treated and released.
Pineira, 69, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
