KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – A worker who was left dangling from the 12th floor of a building in Key Biscayne Thursday after the scaffolding he was on collapsed has been released from the hospital, authorities said on Friday.
The worker was identified by police as Marcus Perdomo, 63, of Hollywood.
Authorities said Perdomo is back at home and doing fine.
Key Biscayne firefighters and Miami Fire Rescue's technical rescue team were called to the Grand Bay Club on Grand Bay Drive after the scaffolding collapsed.
Sky 10 was above the scene at 3 p.m. as Perdomo dangled by a harness.
"I was scared that he was going to fall, actually, but I guess he had a harness," Elena Deschapelles, who witnessed the incident said.
A member of the technical rescue team lowered himself down the side of the building to reach the worker. A second worker then assisted in lowering Perdomo safely to the ground.
Firefighters said Perdomo's equipment was so loaded and ill-fitting that it was impossible to pull him in through a balcony or window.
"His equipment was essentially so loaded and so tight that there wasn't a chance of us doing something quick and easy like that," Miami firefighter Miguel Perez said.
Perdomo was immediately placed onto a stretcher and taken by ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Authorities said he wasn’t hurt, but was treated for dehydration.
Authorities said Perdomo was the only person on the scaffolding at the time of the incident.
It's unclear what caused the scaffolding to collapse.
OSHA is investigating the incident.
