HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A fire at a Hollywood auto body shop knocked out electricity to area businesses and homes late Sunday night.
"I was laying in bed and I heard some explosions," Robert Wheeler told Local 10 News.
Wheeler went outside to investigate and saw Caffi Brothers Auto Body Shop on South Dixie Highway up in flames.
"It was just covered in smoke, and it just smelled horrible," nearby resident Apollonia Auciello said. "And we just saw all the cranes, so we decided to take our bikes all the way around. All the power is out now, too."
Electricity was out for several hours for people who live nearby because of an exploding transformer. It has since been restored.
"It was blacked out smoke," Wheeler said. "You couldn't breathe. You were coughing."
The fire was reported at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, shutting down South Dixie Highway in both directions.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
