Davie JCC evacuated after bomb threat

Davie police says threat was not credible

DAVIE, Fla. – The David Posnack JCC in Davie was evacuated following a bomb threat, one of many across the country Monday morning.

Davie Police later determined the threat was not credible and the campus reopened at 11:30 a.m.

Sky 10 was overhead as students and staff gathered outside on-campus buildings just after 9:15 a.m.

Teachers were seen guiding young children across the street to nearby locations where parents were allowed to pick them up.

Upper school students were allowed to be picked up at Cathedral Pentacost church, while preschoolers were at the Walgreens on Pine Island Road.

The numbers of children on campus was almost doubled as students from the Hollywood JCC campus were visiting the Davie location for a performance when the threat was made.

"They absolutely have to do something to figure this out. I mean, I think there was one in North Carolina today also, so they need to crack down on this because this is ridiculous," one parent, Dan Hoffman, said.

All afternoon activities have been canceled for Monday at the school. Students are allowed to pick up their belongings until 3:30 p.m. Classes and activities will resume as scheduled on Tuesday.

Reports claim up to 10 Jewish Community Centers in the U.S. received threats Monday.

"As always, safety is our top priority and we are grateful to our law enforcement agencies working to ensure tha wellbeing of all," Michael Balaban, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Broward County, said in a statement. "These anti-Semitic incidents are deeply unsettling to the Jewish community, causing fear and anxiety, intended to interfere with day-to-day life.

"The campus serves not just the Jewish community, but the entire community. Participants from all different backgrounds come for education, recreation, cultural and religious programming and opportunities to come together as a community."

Several JCC's across the country have been threatened over the last few weeks, although none of the threats were deemed credible after investigations.
