FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā The captain of a Spirit Airlines flight decided to land Tuesday evening at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after a possible lightning strike, airport officials said.
The flight from Tampa to Atlantic City, New Jersey, took off about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Even though planes are designed to take a lightning hit, the captain decided to land at FLL to have the plane checked, airport officials said.
A Spirit hub at the airport influenced the captain's decision, officials said.
Passengers on board the flight were being accommodated by the airlines. There were no injuries.
