POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A firefighter was injured Friday while battling flames at an automotive shop in Pompano Beach, authorities said.
The fire was reported at Lowther Automotive Inc. at 319 SW 14th Ave.
Sky 10 was above the scene shortly before noon and saw significant damage to the roof. The fire had already been extinguished.
"They were vacuuming out the car and the vacuum shorted out. It set the car on fire, and then everything blew up," witness Steve Luger said.
Video taken by authorities at the scene shows a firefighter falling from the top of a ladder while hosing down the roof of the building.
"The force apparently from the fire hose caused him to tip and the ladder went over sideways. He fell as did a firefighter that was just below him on the ladder," Pompano Beach Fire Rescue spokeswoman Sandra King said.
The firefighter is expected to be OK, but was taken to Broward Health North as a precaution.
King said two employees who were inside the warehouse at the time escaped without injuries.
