FBI searches for robber who struck 2 Chase branches in Coral Gables

FBI investigates at least 5 South Florida bank robberies in last 2 days

MIAMI – A man wearing a black Nike baseball cap, black sneakers, a T-shirt and long shorts was accused of robbing two banks in Miami, Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities moved as fast as possible. FBI Special Agent Michael D. Leverock sent an e-mail asking several members of the media for help in finding the man about an hour after the incidents.

Leverock said that in both incidents "the robber entered the banks, implied he had a weapon and demanded money from a bank employee." No one was hurt.

Surveillance video showed the same man at two Chase Bank branches. About 4:08 p.m., he was at 2750 Coral Way, in Coral Gables. And about 4:21 p.m., he was at 3700 W. Flagler St., in Coral Gables. The man had not shaved.

About 2:35 p.m., a clean-shaven man wearing sun glasses and dressed all in black also robbed a Chase Bank at 12945 SW 112 St., in South Miami-Dade's The Crossings neighborhood.

In Broward, two bank robberies Tuesday and Wednesday at separate BB&T bank branches were not as brazen. Both involved a disguise.

A person wearing a baseball cap, a pair of Groucho glasses and a nose robbed the branch at 3101 N. Pine Island Road, in Sunrise, about 1:45 p.m. On Tuesday afternoon, a bank robber dressed all in black wore a hooded sweat shirt at the branch, 1451 W. Cypress Creek Rd., in Fort Lauderdale.

The robber looked like the Grim Reaper.

The FBI did not report any injuries during the bank robberies in Broward County either.  They were asking anyone with information to call the FBI at 754-703-2000.
