WESTON, Fla. – The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a robber or robbers involved in up to seven bank robberies throughout Broward County.
FBI agents have dubbed the culprit the "Filter Bandit" because he typically wear a dust filter mask to hide his face during the robberies.
August 2014 robbery
The first robbery was reported Aug. 9, 2014, at a Chase Bank at 10195 Cleary Blvd. in Plantation.
In that incident, a man dressed in a black hoodie with a dust filter mask approached a bank teller and threatened the teller with a firearm.
January, February robberies
A TD Bank branch at 1800 North Pine Island Road in Plantation was robbed Jan. 7 and again on Valentine's Day by someone who appeared to be the same man.
In both robberies, the culprit was dressed in a black shirt or black hoodie and had his mouth covered.
The man also displayed a handgun while robbing a teller in each case.
March robberies
On March 16, a TD Bank at 7001 W. Commercial Blvd. in Tamarac was robbed. In that case, the robber was completely disguised, wearing a hoodie and a dust filter mask to hide his face.
A handgun was also displayed during the robbery.
Another bank robbery was reported March 27 at a Chase Bank at 6001 N. University Drive in Tamarac.
The culprit also wore a hoodie and dust filter mask to disguise himself. A firearm was not used in the robbery.
The same man is also believed to have robbed a Sun Trust bank at 1890 N. University Drive in Coral Springs on March 31.
He again wore a hoodie and a dust filter mask to hide his face and did not use a firearm.
June robbery
In the latest incident, a BB&T Bank at 13636 State Road 84 in Davie was robbed on June 16.
The robber wore a black hoodie that completely covered his face and threatened a bank employee with a firearm.
The FBI has not released the amount of money taken by the robber.
