Police said a construction worker who was controlling traffic through a road construction zone stopped a 2008 gold Scion XB.

When the worker allowed the Scion to proceed east, the driver sped forward and struck Jaime Padin, 43, another construction worker who was trying to walk across Taft Street.

Police said the driver fled the scene and was last spotted in the area of Taft Street and North Dixie Highway. The car was towed from the scene.

Padin was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver is described as a white man between 20 and 30 years old. He has a thin build, dirty blonde hair and a goatee, police said.

Anyone with information about the driver is asked to call Hollywood police at 954-967-4567 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
