Disturbance in Atlantic Ocean could come 'very close to home'

National Hurricane Center calls for 70 percent chance of development

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A tropical disturbance brewing in the Atlantic Ocean could come "very close to home" for South Florida, Local 10 News meteorologist Julie Durda said Thursday morning.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are calling for a 70 percent chance of tropical cyclone development in the next five days.

"We know that the models do have it pretty much in agreement that it's going to head to the west-northwest," Durda said.

The system could affect Puerto Rico as early as Thursday night.

"It will eventually move over to an environment that is conducive for development," Durda said.

The next named storm would be Cristobal.
