HAVANA – Canal Caribe will be offering several hours of news programming every day in Cuba.
The Cuban government unveiled the island's first news channel on March 14. Their newsroom counts on the experience of some former employees of TeleSUR. They will be transmitting through HD-1 -- a first for the island.
Ovidio Cabrera Garcia, the Televisión Cubana's news director, said Canal Caribe will air news 18 hours a day, seven days a week. They will be working on improving immediacy and reach with a network of correspondents spread out in Latin America.
News anchor Luis Miguel Cabrera said the newscast will also attempt to mirror the Cuban reality. Their list of shows includes "The World Now" with Cabrera and Cristina Escobar and "Economic World" with Maricela Recasen and Aglaya Diaz.
