DANIA BEACH, Fla. – A 35-year-old man was arrested Thursday after he forced his way inside a 74-year-old woman's Dania Beach home, pointed a gun to her head and tied her up while he burglarized the place, deputies said.
Daniel Carter faces charges of armed home invasion and elderly abuse without great bodily harm.
According to a Broward Sheriff's Office affidavit, Carter and two other armed men forced their way inside the woman's home on the evening of Dec. 10.
Louise Pfister told deputies that one of the men, whom she later identified from a photographic lineup as Carter, put a gun to her head while she was sitting in the kitchen and told her to get out of the way.
She said the gunmen demanded money from her and told her to cooperate or else she would be shot.
"And the one dog would not stop barking ... and they were going to shoot her, too," Pfister said. "And I said, 'Don't shoot my doggie.'"
Pfister said Carter forced her into her son's room, where he tied her hands and feet with a cable and left her on the ground while he and the other gunmen rummaged through her house.
Among the items stolen were an iPad, three cellphones, a safe and more than $1,030 in cash.
