Miami man fatally stabs patron in Little Havana bar brawl, police say

Miguel Guevarra claims self-defense in May attack at Joseph's Club Restaurant

MIAMI – A Miami man accused of fatally stabbing a patron during a brawl at a Little Havana bar in May claims he acted in self-defense.

Local 10 News on Thursday obtained surveillance video of the May 21 scuffle at Joseph Club, 1971 NW Seventh St.

Miguel Guevarra, 45, was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Jesus Hernandez, 23.

Surveillance video from the bar showed Guevarra punch Hernandez multiple times, Miami police Detective Alexander Avila wrote in an arrest warrant.

Several patrons separated the men, but the video showed Guevarra break free from the crowd and stab Hernandez twice.

Hernandez was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Guevarra's attorney claims his client was scared for his life and should be immune from prosecution under Florida's "stand your ground" law.
