Gunman, accomplice rob teen in Dania Beach, steal victim's shirt

16-year-old's plans to sell iPhone results in warehouse robbery

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are trying to identify two men who were caught on surveillance video robbing a 16-year-old boy at gunpoint, stealing anything they could carry, including the victim's shirt.

The incident was reported Wednesday at a warehouse on Griffin Road in Dania Beach.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said the teenager arranged to sell his iPhone on a popular mobile app. He found a potential buyer and agreed to meet with him in the parking lot of a warehouse where he works.

Surveillance video released Friday shows the teen and a man talking outside for several minutes until the man pulls out a gun and points it at the teen.

The gunman forces the teen inside the warehouse, and a second man wearing a mask follows behind.

Carter said the thieves spent about 10 minutes rummaging through the warehouse, sifting through items to steal. Throughout the ordeal, the armed man pointed the gun at the teen.

"Just putting a gun to a minor's face. This isn't a crime that people should be on the streets still," business owner Pesachya Markus said.

Before they left, the gunman demanded the teen's personal cellphone, his wallet and even his shirt nd a piece of his religious garb. The video shows the teen taking off his shirt.

"Not only did they take the money and the electronics, but they also took his Tefillin, which is like his Jewish thing that he wears every morning when he prays," Markus said.

The gunman was wearing a black shirt and a black New York Yankees hat. The masked man was heavyset, wore a black sleeveless shirt with a white undershirt and a black backpack.

Anyone who recognizes the thieves or has information about the robbery is asked to call the BSO at 954-321-4738 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
