Funeral held for man found shot to death inside car after leaving casino

Alex Eichmann, 48, found with gunshot wound outside Pompano Beach McDonald's

MARGATE, Fla. ā€“ A family is saying goodbye to a South Florida man who was found dead last week outside a McDonald's restaurant in Pompano Beach.

Alex Eichmann's funeral was held Thursday, nearly 10 days after he was shot and killed inside his Corvette.

Relatives said Eichmann was a good person, and they are urging anyone who knows anything about his death to please come forward.Ā

"It's been devastating to our family. We loved Alex so much," Eichmann's brother, Eric, said.

Choking back tears, Eric Eichmann looked back on his brother's life.

"He was such a kind soul and for the life of us, we just can't figure out who would want to do this to him and why," Eichmann said. Ā

The family came together Thursday at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Margate to honor the life of the 48-year-old who was shot in the parking lot of a McDonald's July 11.

Before Alex Eichmann went to the McDonald's, his brother said that he went to the Isle Casino, where people knew him well.

"He would try to go once or twice a week if he could," Eric Eichmann said. Ā

Detectives won't say whether someone might have followed him from the casino to the McDonald's -- a route Eichmann generally took -- but his family isn't ruling anything out.

"Yeah, anything is possible right now," Eric Eichmann said.

For now, detectives will say that they are looking for two men who were seen inside of a 4-door Oldsmobile Alero.

They have also identified a woman who they said is a witness in the case.

As the family bids their final farewell, they are hoping someone out there can help bring them the closure and justice they are so desperately seeking.

"Whoever did this, they took my brother," Eric Eichmann said. "They can't take the beautiful memories and the soul that he had because he is in heaven now. Nobody is going to take that away from him."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
