Woman arrested in fight before shooting at northwest Miami-Dade apartment complex

Audrey Finnie says she saw at least 2 men fire their guns

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A fight between a group of women broke out shortly before a shooting that injured two people Monday night at an apartment complex in northwest Miami-Dade, witnesses told Local 10 News.

Witnesses said that Jessica Jean, 23, who was shot in the head and Calvin Wright, 27, who was shot in the chest and left arm were innocent bystanders when the shooting broke out.

Audrey Finnie was arrested Tuesday for her involvement in that fight, police said.

According to a police report, Finnie was arrested after getting into a fight with another woman about a past relationship with her significant other.

During the argument, Finnie, 27, grabbed a kitchen knife and began to slash the other woman's tires while screaming obscenities during the argument, Miami-Dade police said in an arrest report.

Finnie then climbed onto the hood of the vehicle and smashed the front window with her feet, before doing the same to the rear window, according to the report. The incident was caught on camera.

When approached by the victim, Finnie pointed the knife at her, the report said. The victim then retreated and called for police, but Finnie fled before law enforcement showed up.

In an interview with police, Finnie said she was drinking "pink moscato" and was "drunk" during the incident, police said. She also confessed to have vandalized the vehicle and pointing the knife at the other woman.

Finnie appeared in court Wednesday, where she was ordered to be held on $8,000 bond. She will remain in jail until at least Thursday on a hold, because she was already out on bond in connection with another case at the time of her arrest. She is expected to go before a judge again on Thursday.

Before her arrest, Finnie spoke to Local 10 News about the incident.

Finnie said she was involved in the fight with a couple other women before some men in the area started firing their guns.

"The guy from the third floor came out, " she said. "He shot once."

Finnie said another man started shooting just seconds later.

"I seen the other guy pass his friend a gun, and his friend went to shooting," Finnie said. "His friend aimed that gun at me."

Finnie suffered scrapes, cuts and scars while being pulled to safety.

She said she and her family slept at another home Monday night for their safety, but returned home Tuesday to find that their apartment had been burglarized.

"It was so many kids out here," Finnie said. "It could have been one of my kids, their kids, anybody's child."

Detective Marjorie Eloi said the shooting happened in the same apartment complex where King Carter, 6, was shot and killed while playing outside in February.

The victims were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Eloi said they were both conscious and breathing.

Wright has been released from the hospital. Jean remains at the hospital but is expected to recover.
