Couple gets thousands in medical services, skip out on bill, police say

Offices across South Florida targeted

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Freddi Marrero got hundreds of dollars of cosmetic work in a Miami Beach dental office -- and didn't pay a dime for it.

On Monday Miami Beach police said that Marrero and an unidentified woman are on the run and accused of stealing $1,000 worth of dental work from the office.

He told the office he forgot his wallet and then left the location without paying. The office called him several times for payment and he never answered.

Marrero is also wanted by Coral Gables police for a similar incident there.

"You try to do what’s best for somebody and then you don’t expect them to do something like that," Dr. Janelle Vega, a dermatologist in Coral Gables said.

Vega said she first met the couple in January.

“The gentleman asked me to please do some cosmetic treatments on them both because they were going to get married,” she said.

Vega says her schedule was full, but she felt bad for them, so she decided to squeeze them in at the last minute.

"Initially, I treated the woman first and she left and he said he was going to pay for her," Vega said.

But when it came time to pay, Marrero wrote a bad check for $5,000. Vega said he also gave a credit card that didn’t go through.

A surveillance video shows him telling the receptionist that he’s going outside to call his brother after his payment methods failed.

But he never returned.

Marrero is said to be 5 feet 7 inches and weighs 170 to 190 pounds. Anyone with information about Marrero is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
