Police arrest teen speeding away in stolen SUV

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – After a massive police chase, Miami Gardens police officers arrested five suspects trying to get away in a stolen sports utility vehicle.

Police officers chased the Honda CR-V into a parking lot at Northwest 187th Drive and Northwest Seventh Avenue, where they arrested three females and one male.

After the driver took off running, the chase continued through the residential neighborhood. Witnesses said they saw dozens of police cars, police officers jumping fences, a police dog and a helicopter.

Miami Gardens police spokeswoman Petula Burks identified the driver of the stolen SUV as Marquel Nelson. The 19-year-old was eventually apprehended.

"The stolen vehicle was left in gear when the driver bailed out and struck a police vehicle at low speed," Burks said in a statement.

She said no officers were injured.
