2 suspects injured after robberies lead to police chase in Homestead, police say

5 others arrested after bailing out of vehicle

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Two of seven robbery suspects were injured Wednesday morning after a police chase ended in a crash in Homestead, authorities said.

Homestead police said they received multiple calls from different victims who claimed that they had been robbed while walking in the area of Northwest 15th Street and Krome Avenue.

"It's very, very scary, because I never see that," Wandra Torres, who lives in the area, said. "I live here for 7 months and it's the first time that I saw that here in this place."

The victims gave police the same description of the getaway vehicle, and officers attempted to pull over the driver a short time later.

Police said the driver refused to stop and led police on a chase.

Authorities said the driver lost control of the car and crashed in the area of 1500 Palm Drive.

Two people in the car were injured. One was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Police said the other person was taken by ground to Homestead Hospital and then airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center.

Police said the five other people in the car bailed out of the vehicle. Two were taken into custody quickly, while the other three ran into the Cali Greens community, police said.

Authorities said some of the suspects hid in an unlocked vehicle, but were found with the help of K-9 units and a SWAT team.

A man who did not want to be identified told Local 10 News that his wife caught one of the suspects in their yard.

"She actually identified the perpetrator, sitting up, tucked into the air conditioning unit behind our house," he said. "I went to the front of the house and told the police officer. He came back with the dog and captured him."

A Homestead police representative said the majority of the suspects are juveniles.
