2 injured in police-involved shooting near Burger King

2 others taken into custody after bailing out of SUV

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were injured Monday in a police-involved shooting in northwest Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade police Detective Marjorie Eloi said two officers were conducting a traffic stop about 11 a.m. near a Burger King at Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 179th Street when the Mercedes-Benz SUV rammed the patrol car.

"The officers then opened fire," Eloi said.

Eloi said a man, two women and a teenage girl were inside the SUV.

Police chased the SUV, and two people were taken into custody after bailing out near an apartment complex on Northwest Seventh Avenue in Miami Gardens.

Detectives later learned that two people, including a 14-year-old girl, went to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The girl was found at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
