COOPER CITY, Fla. – A 14-year-old boy faces a manslaughter charge after another 14-year-old boy was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound inside a Cooper City home, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.
The shooting happened before 3 p.m. Thursday at a home at 10000 NW 41st St.
BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella said the boy was killed as he, his 16-year-old brother and a friend played with a handgun. When deputies arrived, they discovered the body of the victim in the garage and a handgun nearby.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel called the incident a "terrible tragedy." He said the SWAT team was called to clear the house as a precaution.
The shooting happened at the home of the 14-year-old boy, who now faces a charge of manslaughter with a firearm.
Homicide detectives spent hours talking to the 14-year-old and the victim's 16-year-old brother about the incident.
The victim was not identified by deputies, and the shooting remains under investigation.
