BSO deputy kept woman out of jail in exchange for oral sex, detectives say

Deputy Ted Arboleda arrested, suspended without pay

DANIA BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A Broward Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested Monday after he used his position to accept sexual favors from a woman in exchange for keeping her out of jail, detectives said.

Deputy Ted Arboleda was arrested on a charge of unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior, which is a second-degree felony. He has been on administrative duty since Aug. 19.

"It's discouraging and it's demoralizing to the 99.9 percent of the men and women that work so hard and so diligently (for the BSO)," Sheriff Scott Israel said of the arrest.

BSO detectives said Arboleda made contact with the woman at a Dania Beach gas station in July 2013. The woman, who didn't have a valid driver's license and allegedly had marijuana and an unlabeled bottle of prescription medication in her possession, told Arboleda she was on felony probation and offered him money not to be arrested.

Arboleda didn't take the money, but he gave her back the drugs and then took her home, where she offered him oral sex, detectives said. Arboleda accepted and left without arresting her, detectives said.

"We're not going to tolerate this kind of behavior," the sheriff said.

Arboleda is now suspended without pay. Internal affairs is investigating.
