Several state and local agencies collaborated with BSO in the two-day operation last week.

Deputies say several undercover detectives set up a series of meetings with suspicious contractors in a Weston home, posing as homeowner looking to renovate.

During the meetings, each of the 30 contractors claimed they were licensed and insured, although none of them were. BSO has identified one of those arrested as 50-year-old Daniel Guanche. He was the only one formally processed and booked into jail. Guanche was released last Thursday after posting $100 bond.

Detectives say it is common for unlicensed contractors to take the client's money and never complete the job. To make sure you don't become victim, BSO recommends reviewing an agreement and verifying a contractor's license and track record.
