FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā Randi Calhoon is a single mom working hard to make ends meet for her kids, T.J. and Destiny. But the fruits of her labor were taken away Tuesday night after a thief broke into their modest home and stole some of the few things she worked so hard to provide -- the television, tablets and T.J.'s prized Xbox.
"He was like, 'Mom, I had a long day. I just want to come home and I want to play my game,'" Calhoon said. "And when it wasn't here, he just broke down."
To make matters worse, it's the second theft they've suffered this year.
"It's just scary that it happened again," Calhoon said.
This time, Calhoon said she called Fort Lauderdale police. Officers Juan Ho and Aaron Wright responded to the call and went above and beyond their call of duty.
"(The boy) told his sister, 'They took everything. They took all of our stuff,'" Wright said. "And it just pulled on my heartstring."
They called fellow Officer Wes Taylor and devised a plan. That night, they came back with another Xbox for T.J.
Calhoon said that despite their hardships, this Thanksgiving, they'll give thanks for three special people.
"I thank God that we have good police officers out there," she said. "So that they can show other people that they're not all bad. It's not always about police brutality and that if something happens, don't call them, because there are good guys out there."
