9 Cuban migrants arrive ashore Key Biscayne

Beachgoers say migrants told them they had been at sea for 10 days

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – Nine Cuban migrants made it ashore Key Biscayne Tuesday afternoon, according to Key Biscayne Fire Rescue.

Fire officials said the migrants were found in the area of East Mashta Drive and Ocean Drive about 2 p.m.

Sky 10 was over the scene as the boat, made from a dump truck, could be seen onshore with several locals walking along the beach.

Some beachgoers told Local 10 News reporter Neki Mohan that the migrants told them they had been at sea for 10 days. They said they had food and water with them, but said they had encountered tough water at certain points during their journey.

The migrants were being processed by federal agents.
