10 hurt after car crashes into Homestead Little Caesars restaurant

Police: Older man mistook accelerator for brake

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Ten people were hurt after a car crashed into a Little Caesars pizza restaurant, police said.

The crash happened Wednesday night in the 2800 block of Northeast Eighth Street in Homestead.

"We heard a big noise and everyone started running out," said Bruna Sossa.

 Sossa saw the incident unfold.

"It was very chaotic, very unexpected. Nobody knew what to do. Our first reaction was to help the people inside," Sossa said.

Police said an older man mistook the accelerator for the brake.

Eight of the injured were taken to a hospital, including a victim who was just three years old.

Police said it could have been much worse.

"Pretty much everyone checking on each other... It wasn't as bad as it could have been," said Sgt. Connie Smith-Gibson.

All of the victims are expected to be okay.

The driver was cited for reckless driving.
