KEY WEST, Fla. – Three people were shot early Monday on Duval Street and one man was arrested, according to Key West police.
The shooting was reported just before 1:30 a.m.
According to police, the suspect, Derek Michael David of Sugarloaf, was having a domestic dispute. Several people tried to defend the woman involved and that's when David pulled out the gun and fired at the group, police said.
Authorities said the shots missed those involved in the altercation and ended up hitting three innocent bystanders.
Surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News shows a man believed to be David dragging a woman down Charles Street and knocking her to the ground. Two men are seen running over to help before the suspect fires into the air and then aims his gun down the street toward the victims.
David is in custody and faces three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
"I saw a gentleman laying on the ground in the convenience store (and) paramedics were on top of him right away," witness Scott Rice, of West Palm Beach, said.
One victim, Scott McBride, 54, was treated at a hospital and released. Brenden Boudreaux, 35, and Reid Ogden, 27, were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in Miami.
"I heard what sounded like firecrackers or something," Ogden told Local 10 News reporter Amy Viteri. "I thought fireworks were going off or something -- a little celebration and I ended up seeing a guy run past me and I heard a little pop, and that's when my forearm went numb."
Witnesses said a bouncer at Rick's helped chase down David, who was arrested just one block over on Green Street.
"(The) guys hopped over the fence right here, cops pulled around right here, guns drawn right here and then I believe they ended up catching the suspect," Brandon Martorello, who is visiting from Las Vegas, said.
