MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 15-year-old has been arrested on a charge of first-degree murder in connection to the shooting of two teens in southwest Miami-Dade County.
Dennis Lee Shelby Jr., of Florida City, was arrested following a double shooting Sunday night that killed Rahkeem Brown, 16, and injured Tyvontae Robinson.
Police said the victims were found with gunshot wounds in the area of Southwest 280th Street and 141st Avenue. They were taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where Brown died and Robinson, 16, remains in critical condition.
According to an arrest report, the two friends and a third victim were walking into a complex in the area when a black 4-door Kia pulled up and someone from the rear drivers side started firing.
Police said Brown was struck in the chest and fell to the ground. Robinson and the third person tried to hide behind mailboxes. They said Robinson was shot one time in the buttock area and the other person was not injured.
Police said the uninjured victim later identified Shelby, known on the streets as "Fat Cat," as the gunman. Detectives said Shelby denied having any involvement in the shooting.
Brown's family said they aren't celebrating the arrest of Shelby.
"I want him dead. I don't want him alive. He took my brother," Anthony Brown said.
People in the community believe the shooting may have been retaliation for a shooting that happened Saturday in Florida City, which left another teenager dead and two others injured.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
